FAQs

The Louis XVI style emerged in France during the late 18th century as a reaction against the curves of Rococo, favouring neoclassical straight lines, symmetry, classical architectural motifs, and fluted columns.

These beds were typically constructed from solid hardwoods such as beech or oak, often featuring hand-carved decorative elements, painted or limed finishes, and traditional upholstery techniques for headboards and footboards.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit period-appropriate joinery, hand-carved detailing with natural wear, traditional patination on the timber or painted surfaces, and hardware consistent with nineteenth-century manufacturing methods.

Pairing this traditional piece with minimalist modern bedding, neutral colour palettes, and contemporary lighting creates a balanced juxtaposition between historic craftsmanship and modern simplicity.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth and avoid harsh chemical cleaners or excessive moisture. Maintain stable indoor humidity levels to protect the timber and any upholstered components from degradation.
