George II silver waiters and salvers date from the reign of King George II (1727-1760), a period marked by the heavy influence of the Rococo style, featuring ornate chased decoration and cast shell-and-scroll borders.

These items were traditionally crafted from sterling silver, adhering to the 925 standard, utilising techniques such as hand-chasing, engraving, casting, and raising from a single sheet of metal.

Authentic pieces are identified by clear hallmarks stamped on the underside or rim, typically including the makers mark, the lion passant for sterling standard, the leopards head for London assay, and a date letter specific to the era.

An antique silver waiter can be incorporated into contemporary spaces by placing it on a sideboard or coffee table to display small decorative objects, creating a striking contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern minimalist decor.

Antique silver should be cleaned infrequently using a high-quality, non-abrasive silver polish and a soft microfibre cloth, and stored in a temperature-controlled environment away from direct sunlight and high humidity to prevent tarnishing.
