Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

An escritoire is a piece of furniture designed for writing and correspondence, featuring a sloping or fold-down front that conceals a nest of small drawers and compartments, gaining popularity during the late 17th century.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid oak or walnut, utilizing pegged mortise and tenon joints, hand-cut dovetails for drawer construction, and often incorporated elaborate internal concealed compartments.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate tool marks such as adze marks, hand-carved elements, period iron or brass hardware, timber shrinkage consistent with age, and construction methods characteristic of pre-industrial joinery.

An antique escritoire serves as a strong focal point in a study or living area; pair it with minimalist seating to highlight its historical craftsmanship without overcrowding the space.

Maintain antique oak by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber splitting, applying microcrystalline wax periodically, and avoiding silicone-based polishes.
