Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Neoclassical French ormolu lighting emerged in the 18th century, drawing inspiration from classical Greek and Roman architecture. It is defined by symmetrical proportions, fluted columns, acanthus leaf embellishments, and finely chased gilded bronze fittings paired with rich marbles.

Authentic pieces incorporate heavy cast bronze coated in gold leaf or mercury gilding (ormolu), often paired with decorative marbles such as Rouge de Levanto, Carrara, or Siena marble. Candle covers were typically fabricated from painted metal or faux-candle sleeves during conversion to electricity.

Authentic items display sharp hand-chasing detail on the bronze mounts, substantial weight due to solid brass or bronze construction, and hand-cut screw threads underneath. The gilding will usually show slight natural wear and oxidisation in crevices rather than uniform modern electroplating.

Positioning the pair symmetrically on a dining room sideboard, marble console, or fireplace mantelpiece creates balance and visual structure. They contrast effectively against minimal contemporary backgrounds or complement traditional paneled rooms.

Dust regularly with a dry soft-bristled brush or microfiber cloth, avoiding harsh chemical polishes that strip original gilding. Marble components should be wiped with a damp cloth and kept free of acidic liquids to prevent etching or discolouration.
