Description

A rare genuine 19th century circular silverplated folding biscuit box with intricately engraved double cartouches.

One of the cartouches has an engraving reading “Spalding Athletic Sport Aug 1884”

The box has a hinged mechanism and ornate inner pierced grill dividers. The bowls are fixed together by exquisite cast wire work frame with fine detailing.

Dates back to 1870 and made by renowned Sheffield maker Fenton Brothers.

Marked to the bottom with maker’s mark, 4212 and PODR lozenge shaped mark.

Dimensions: height 26.6cm, width 20cm, length when opened 35.5cm

Condition: excellent antique condition, no damage or dents, the mechanism is working well, silverplate is not worn, there’s slight patina, commensurate with age.
