Art Nouveau flourished between the late 19th century and the First World War, characterised by organic motifs, flowing asymmetrical lines inspired by natural forms, and fine craftsmanship applied to everyday objects.

Edwardian purses frequently combined fine textured leathers such as morocco or roan with sterling silver mounts, silk linings, and hand-tooled metal clasps.

Authentic pieces typically feature British hallmark stamps indicating the assay office, metal purity, and date letter, alongside makers marks stamped directly onto the silver elements.

These small collectables work well displayed inside glass-fronted cabinets, on decorative trays on a dressing table, or integrated into a curated tablescape.

Store antique leather and silver away from direct sunlight and high humidity to prevent leather desiccation and silver tarnishing, cleaning the metal only with specialised non-abrasive cloths.
