A Quality Pair of Silver Salt & Pepper Casters

1900 - 1920
Description

A graceful pair of silver salt and pepper casters from the reign of George V. This quality pair are Georgian revival in taste, with square pedestal bases and pull of lids. Both lids are stepped, with the pepper attractively pierced and finished with a steeple finial. The salt has a pouring spout and the silver is of good gauge to both. They make a elegant pair of usable table sized casters, that are as decorative as functional. Dimensions below.

A pair of silver salt and pepper casters from the reign of George V, made by S Blanckensee & Son Ltd in Birmingham in 1926. Designed in a Georgian revival style, the silver exhibits a bright polished silver colour with reflective metallic finishes. Each caster stands on a square pedestal base supporting a baluster body, accompanied by a pull-off stepped lid with clear hallmarks stamped to the body and part marks to the lids. The pepper caster features an attractively pierced conical section surmounted by a steeple finial, whilst the companion salt caster is styled with a smooth pouring spout at the top of the lid. Both pieces possess a good gauge of silver and excellent overall structural condition without dents, splits, or holes. Each caster measures 11 cm high, 4 cm wide, and 3.8 cm deep. Suitable for everyday dining use or display, these functional table casters sit well on a dining table, sideboard, or display cabinet within a traditional or contemporary home setting. They bring period character to dining arrangements and can be used to serve seasoning during meals or kept on display for decorative appeal.
