A pair of mid 19thC watercolour paintings by James H Hulse (active c1840-1851). This artist is known for landscapes of large English country houses but this pair are more likely of continental landscape scenes while travelling, possibly Germany, Eastern France or Switzerland. The paintings are signed bottom left. They depict magnificent countryside with hills or mountains in the distance, and bright wide skies. Country people and animals are depicted going about their business. The whole effect is soft, gentle and pleasing. The paintings are nicely framed in silvery gold frames, behind glass. Excellent condition and colour.
Image dimensions each painting 33cmW x 12.5cmH
