FAQs

Brass beds gained immense popularity during the Victorian and Edwardian eras, superseding wooden frames due to advancements in metallurgy and sanitary manufacturing processes that made metal furniture commercially viable.

Authentic period beds typically feature a combination of solid brass or brass-plated iron tubing over a cast iron structural frame, often incorporating cast brass joints and decorative finials.

Authenticity is determined by examining the construction joints, weight, patination, and makers stamps or markings, as older pieces exhibit hand-finished components and cast iron elements rather than modern hollow steel tubing.

Pairing antique brass bed frames with crisp, neutral linens and contemporary lighting creates a balanced focal point that bridges traditional craftsmanship with modern minimalist aesthetics.

Preservation involves dusting with a soft dry cloth and avoiding harsh chemical metal cleaners that strip the natural ageing patination; gentle microfibre cloths help maintain the surface without abrasion.
