Stunning Antique English Sterling Silver Card Case - 1870

Description

A really exquisite card case and a good early example dating to 1870, mid Victorian in era. The handsome shaped case is beautifully engraved all over including a rose to each of the four corners.

The hinge is in perfect working order and when opened reveals the hallmark for Birmingham 1870 together with the highly prized Queen Victoria's head duty mark. The makers initials are slightly rubbed from the opening and closing of the case but I believe it to be HM for the renowned silversmith, Henry Matthews.

Excellent condition, measuring 3 7/8" x 2 7/8". Weight: 1.80 Troy Ounces / 55.9 Grams.
