Victorian jewellery spans the reign of Queen Victoria (18371901) and is typically divided into three distinct periods: Romantic, Grand, and Aesthetic, often characterised by sentimental motifs, rich gold work, and the incorporation of natural gemstones.

Victorian rings were predominantly handcrafted using 9ct, 15ct, or 18ct yellow gold, frequently featuring silver settings on the face to enhance the brilliance of diamonds. Stones were hand-cut, typically in old mine or rose cut styles, and secured with handcrafted settings.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut gemstones with characteristic irregular facets, open or closed closed-back foils in earlier periods, hand-carved shank details, and often historical British hallmarks denoting metal purity and assay offices.

An antique ring can be paired with modern minimalist bands for a mixed-era stack, or worn alone as a focal point to contrast cleanly tailored modern outfits with historic craftsmanship.

Historic jewellery should be cleaned gently using warm soapy water and a soft brush, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners or ultrasonic machines which can destabilise fragile antique settings and delicate gemstones.
