Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 1930s Anglo-Indian tallboy chest of drawers brings distinct character to a gentleman's library or study. Constructed from solid teak hardwood with a warm brown finish, the piece reflects classic craftsmanship through meticulous hand-carved detailing. Seven stacked drawers dominate the front elevation, each fitted with vertical fluted mouldings flanking a central carved escutcheon handle. A decorative border relief carving adorns the overhanging top surface, framing the rectangular silhouette. Natural grain variations run throughout the timber surface, displaying authentic signs of age and handling. Practical storage meets decorative appeal in this substantial furniture piece, measuring 104 cm high, 74 cm wide, and 40 cm deep. The upright proportion allows it to fit neatly against a study wall or within a bedroom alcove, offering ample capacity for clothing, papers, or personal collections. The durable hardwood construction ensures everyday functionality while maintaining its historic aesthetic. It serves as a striking storage solution for traditional or eclectic interiors seeking practical organization combined with intricate artisan woodwork.

FAQs

Anglo-Indian furniture from this era combines Western utility and furniture forms with traditional Indian woodcarving techniques, often utilizing native tropical hardwoods and relief decoration.

These pieces are typically constructed from dense hardwoods such as teak, sheesham, or padauk, featuring hand-carved decorative motifs and traditional dovetail joinery.

Authentic period pieces show subtle variations in hand-carved details, natural oxidation on the internal timber, and hand-fitted drawer construction rather than modern machine precision.

Style the rich carved woodwork against neutral wall tones and pair with natural linen textiles, simple ceramics, or contemporary lighting to create an eclectic balance.

Dust regularly along the carved contours with a soft brush or microfibre cloth, and apply a natural beeswax polish periodically while keeping the timber away from direct heat sources.
