Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Irish Georgian tallboy chest of drawers stands in rich mahogany brown timber, displaying fine country house patination and eight graduated drawers fitted with brass swan-neck handles and escutcheons. The upper section is finished with a detailed dentil moulding along the cornice, while the base rests on original shaped bracket feet. The wood grain shows warm reddish-brown tones with natural variation across the flat drawer surfaces. Measuring 175 cm high, 104 cm wide, and 51 cm deep, this substantial piece provides generous vertical storage for folded clothing, linens, or paperwork. Placed in a master bedroom, dressing room, or traditional study, the chest coordinates well with period furniture, leather seating, and classic wood finishes. The upper drawers arrange for a fall-front workspace with internal compartments, while the lower drawers accommodate larger items. Natural light from a nearby window highlights the figure of the timber and the polished brass hardware, making it a functional focal point in a traditional interior layout.

FAQs

Dust the timber regularly with a soft microfibre cloth and apply beeswax twice yearly, keeping the furniture away from direct sunlight, radiators, and extreme fluctuations in atmospheric humidity.

A tallboy serves as a dramatic vertical accent in a bedroom, dressing room, or hallway, harmonising with neutral wall shades, natural textiles, and clean-lined modern art to balance its visual weight.

Authentic Georgian tallboys exhibit hand-cut dovetail joinery, irregular shrinkage lines on drawer bottoms, original brass hardware with cast sprues, and natural patination across the timber surfaces.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid and veneered mahogany, featuring hand-dovetailed drawer joints, oak or pine secondary drawer linings, and hand-cast brass handles with detailed backplates.

An Irish Georgian tallboy secretaire chest is a tall piece of 18th-century cabinet furniture crafted in Ireland, featuring multiple stacked drawers and an integrated drop-front writing desk compartment within one of the upper drawer fronts.
