Stunning English Glass & Sterling Silver Inkwell by Henry Matthews - 1901

Description

A wonderful heavy glass inkwell with a star cut base and covered in the most stunning cast sterling silver casing, beautiful pierced or reticulated detail. The underside has a highly decorative deep hobnail design cut.

The domed hinged lid is in perfect working order and once opened reveals a small removable glass ink chamber.

The silver is clearly hallmarked for Chester 1901, late Victorian in era, together with the makers mark (HM) for the well renowned silversmith, Henry Matthews

Superb undamaged condition with a base diameter measuring 3 5/8" and stands 2 1/4" tall.
