A beautiful huge sterling silver mounted horn table snuff mull. It is unmarked but tests as sterling silver almost certainly made in Scotland c1850-1880 most likely in a small provincial workshop. It has been beautifully made from an entire horn silver mounted and set with a carnelian stone. The inside of the lid has been gilded and the stone chamfered. It is in outstanding condition being free from dings splits holes and repairs. The lid closes tightly. It measures approx. 14 inches (36cm) from its tip to the lid edge. The lid is 4 inches (10cms) across. It weighs approx. 1.4kg. A very rare and impressive piece.
