Rare 422g Swiss Jezler Solid Silver Lidded Bowl Urn C1920 Antique Arts & Craft

1900 - 1920
Description

A beautiful large stunning Swiss solid silver lidded bowl or urn. It is hallmarked with 800 standard mark along with the Swiss maker of Jezler, a very highly regarded firm. I would date it to c1920s. It has been superbly designed being hand planished and is in superb condition having no dings splits or repairs. It measures approx. 7 inches (7.7cm) across including the handles and over 3.75 inches (9.7cm) excluding them across the rim by over 4.25 inches (11cm) across the base by 6.5 inches (16.4cm) tall and weighs 422 grams. A stunning example, about as good as it gets.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Arts and Crafts silver is characterised by hand-hammered surface finishes, visible craftsmanship, and a rejection of mass industrial production. Designers incorporated stylised natural motifs, geometric banding, and functional structural elements such as broad handles.

These objects were forged from solid silver alloys, stamped with maker and assay hallmarks to verify purity. Craftspeople utilised hand-raising techniques, repousse, chasing for surface decoration, and hand-soldered joints for handles and finials.

Authentic pieces typically bear official maker stamps alongside Swiss hallmarks indicating purity standards. Physical indicators include subtle surface irregularities from hand-hammering and detailed chased ornamentation along the borders.

A silver lidded bowl serves as a refined accent when positioned on a sideboard top, mantelpiece, or shelving unit. Grouping the vessel alongside ceramic objects or dark wood surfaces highlights its metallic lustre and detailed craftsmanship.

Solid silver should be cleaned periodically using a specialised silver polishing cloth or a mild non-abrasive silver cream to remove oxidisation. Storing the piece in a low-humidity environment away from direct sulfur exposure minimises tarnish development.
