Stunning Chinese Export Solid Silver Jug C1900 Antique 154g

1900 - 1920
Description

A beautiful antique solid silver Chinese export silver jug. It is marked with a Chinese character and tests as high grade silver. The maker is Tuck Chang. I would date it to c1890-1910. It has been beautifully hand made being lightly plannished. It is in superb condition being free from dings splits holes and repairs, just the odd light mark. It measures approx. 4.75 inches (12.3cm) across handle to lip and 3.25 inches (8.5cms) tall to the top of the handle and weighs 154 grams. A superbly designed example.

Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Chinese export silver refers to silver objects produced in China from the late 18th century through the mid-20th century, specifically crafted for export to Western markets while often combining traditional Chinese techniques with Western form factors.

Items were typically forged from high-purity solid silver, featuring hand-hammered textures, repousse relief motifs, chased details, and cast structural additions such as handles and feet.

Authentic pieces frequently bear makers marks or shop stamps in Chinese characters, sometimes accompanied by pseudo-English hallmarks or retailer stamps alongside evidence of period hand-tooling.

A silver jug can be styled on a sideboard top, curated within a glazed display cabinet, or arranged alongside porcelain on a tea tray to add a metalwork accent to a traditional or modern interior.

Clean silver gently using warm water and mild liquid soap, drying thoroughly with a soft cloth. Apply a non-abrasive silver polish sparingly when necessary to remove tarnish while preserving original surface detail.
