Finely knotted by armenian weavers in western turkey.

Design based on 17th century transylvanian prayer rugs see last two images,which are very hard to source and cost an exorbitant amount of money when they do appear. .

This is a later 19th century example but nevertheless still has the presence and look of an original and even these later examples are getting harder to find.

This example has low pile with wear. Nevertheless still looks stunning hung on a wall,

Size is 5 foot 7 inches by 4 foot 1 inches. 170cm X 125cm. Very fine wool pile hand knotted onto very fine cotton foundations. Incidentally this rug looks equally as good on the back as it does on the front !

Interesting rug offered at very buyable money for the look !

This nineteenth-century area rug follows an Ottoman Anatolian style, originating from West Anatolia and based on seventeenth-century Transylvanian prayer rug designs. Armenian weavers hand-knotted the fine wool pile onto a cotton foundation. The piece displays a central blue arched field with floral spandrels and a Mihrab arch motif, enclosed within geometric borders in shades of red, cream, and soft pink, showing a low pile with visible wear. Measuring 170 cm high by 125 cm wide and 0.4 cm deep, the rug suits an English Country House aesthetic and functions well hung on a wall or laid as floor covering in a living room, hallway, or study.
