Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the nineteenth century, large copper tubs and cauldrons were used primarily for laundry washing, brewing, and culinary preparation over open fires. As heating methods evolved, these durable metallic vessels were frequently repurposed for storing firewood beside open hearths.

Authentic nineteenth-century pieces were constructed from heavy-gauge sheet copper, formed by hand hammering and jointed with dovetailed or riveted seams. Handles were commonly forged from wrought iron and secured to the rim with copper rivets.

Authentic period copper vessels exhibit uneven hand-hammered surfaces, visible seam lines, heavy wrought iron drop handles, and legitimate verdigris oxidisation. Machine-stamped rims, uniform sheet thickness, or modern welding indicate later production.

These vessels are commonly styled as log containers beside a fireplace hearth or used as architectural planters in conservatories and entryways. Their aged metallic surface provides textural contrast against stone, brick, or timber backgrounds.

To preserve natural verdigris oxidisation, avoid abrasive polishes or chemical cleaners. Clean the surface gently with a soft dry brush or damp cloth, and ensure the interior remains dry if used indoors to prevent further active corrosion.
