FAQs

Egg warmers and cruet stands gained popularity during the Victorian and Edwardian periods as breakfast became an increasingly elaborate, formal meal in middle and upper-class households.

These pieces were typically crafted from base metals such as nickel silver or copper, which were then electroplated with a layer of sterling silver.

Authenticity is generally determined by makers marks, hallmarks or registration numbers stamped into the metal, along with natural wear patterns and silver tarnish appropriate to the age.

It can be displayed as a decorative dining table centrepiece, styled on a sideboard, or incorporated into a kitchen counter display of vintage metallics.

Silver plate should be cleaned gently using a specialist silver polish and a soft cloth, avoiding abrasive materials that could wear away the thin silver layer.
