An impressive silver and cut glass sugar caster or sifter with a good weight and attractively shaped. The glass is square to the top and the sides flare outwards in triangular panels of plain and diamond patterned glass towards a smooth diamond shaped base. The cut glass is boldly patterned with some depth of relief creating a firm surface to grip. The silver top is bell shaped with a small finial, ribbed decoration and crisply pierced stars allowing the sugar to flow. It fastens securely with a screw fitting which works smoothly.Hallmarked as sterling silver, London 1960 by Preece & Willicombe.A lovely tactile vintage sifter which would make a sweet gift! Condition: There are one or two slight nibbles to the cut glass and one small chip near the shoulder but these are not at all obvious.
