Cotswold Oriental Rugs has dated this piece to the 1870s.
Antique Caucasian Talish long rug with abrashed madder red field.
Circa 1870.
The plain red field is scarce, one would normally associate Talish rugs with a dark indigo blue or blue/green field; the red ground of this example is quite striking. The ivory ground rosette border is well drawn with good spacing.

The rug is in good condition with even wear and medium pile. There are slight losses at both ends which have now been secured.
Hand washed and ready for use or display, the rug is suitable for light domestic use.
A truly outstanding example of type.
