Rowland Henry Hill 1873-1952.Landscape and figure painter in oil and watercolour.Born in Halifax and studied at Bradford School of Art and Herkomer School Bushey.Exhibited 21 works at RA from 1897,in the provinces and at Paris.Lived at Hinderwell near Staithes.He was a leading member of the Staithes School of Art. ‘Dock Scene with Shipping’ signed watercolour,dated 1910;image size 33x45 cms,framed size 53x64.5 cms.A good early example of the artists work when he employed a more muted palette than he employed later in his career.
