Thomas Bush Hardy 1842-1897.Marine painter and watercolourist born Sheffield.Travelled in Holland and Italy.Exhibited at SS 1872-97(elected RBA 1884),RA and NWS.Hardys prolific coastal scenes painted in fresh and vivid colours achieved enormous popularity.His early works ,such as this example ,are favoured more than his later works which tended to become hasty and repetitive. ‘Sketch on the Tyne’ signed watercolour,inscribed with title,image size 18x29.5 cms ;framed size 45.5x56cms.This watercolour ,painted with great spontaneity ,is particularly competent and quite delightful.Provenance:with David James ,Fine Victorian Watercolours,291 Brompton Rd,Knightsbridge London SW3
