Antique Silver Plated Monteith Bowl with Removable Rim C1880

Description

This is an antique silver plated monteith bowl. This is designed to chill wine glasses. There are 8 notches on the rim which allows for the base of a wine glass to be hooked onto it and the body of the glass to rest in the bowl containing ice water. The rim is removable. The body is embossed with verticals dimples and scrolls around a vacant cartouche. Two realistic lions heads are mounted either side with rings through their mouths. This is sold in original plate with little wear. c.1880 British made.
