FAQs

Pastoral oil paintings typically depict idealized rural landscapes, shepherds, and idyllic country scenes, drawing inspiration from classical literature and mythology.

Authentic period pieces were typically created using oil-based pigments applied to stretched woven linen or canvas, often supported by wooden stretcher frames.

Authenticity is assessed by examining canvas weave tightness, pigment oxidisation, craquelure patterns in the paint layer, and the construction marks on the wooden stretcher.

Such artwork adds historic depth and warmth to a room, pairing well with traditional wooden panelling or serving as a striking focal point against neutral walls.

Preservation requires maintaining stable temperature and humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent fading, and keeping the canvas free from dust using soft, dry brushes.
