A wonderfully atmospheric Dauphinois landscape by André Léon Albertin (1867-1933).

The Dauphiné region comprises the westernmost outliers of the Alps, just east of Grenoble. It borders the Rhône River valley to the west and Provence to the south.

My little anecdote about the artist: André Albertin gave free outdoor painting lessons in Grenoble to the general public! ! He was also a journalist and art critic, writing under the pseudonym of André Lefravres or simply "Luc". An academic artist, Albertin exhibited at the Paris Salons of 1895, 1896 and 1899. The oil on canvas presented here was laid down on cardboard in the 1920s, and is signed and dated indistinctly (May 87?) at the lower left. Measuring 38 x 61 cm for the canvas the overall framed size is 47 x 70 cm.
