William IV Antique Silver Castle Top Snuff Box, Nathaniel Mills, 1835

18th century
Description

One of the best Nathaniel Mills snuff boxes I have seen or owned. The cast top is of Newstead Abbey and Mills made this in Birmingham in 1835. Newstead was formerly an Augustinian Priory built around 1170. Following the dissolution of the Monasteries in 1536 it was converted into a domestic home best known as the ancestral home of Lord Byron (1788-1824). The interior of this box is fully gilded with hallmarks in the top and bottom. The box has cut away corners and the castings are as crisp as the day it was made. It's in exceptional condition, the 17 part hinge closes tightly and the top fits perfectly. An amazing box for any collection.

WEIGHT; 154 grams or 5 ozst approximately.

Free delivery in the UK. Payment by bank transfer, card over the phone, PayPal or Klarna. Using Klarna payments can be split over three months.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
