Cotswold Oriental Rugs has dated this Antique Uzbek Safid Kilim to the 1910s.
Antique Uzbek Tartari safid (white) kilim with colourful banded design.
Circa 1900/20.
This unusual kilim is from Uzbekistan, from the region near the town of Sar-i-Pul, set in the northern foothills of the Tibandi Turkestan mountain range where the Hazara women are the main source of this Kilim weaving style. Known as safid (white) kilims, due to the large areas of white separated by coloured bands. These kilims were woven on a simple narrow loom, and are usually long and narrow. The white areas are decorated with embroidered designs.
Excellent condition, very slight wear. Note the original knotted end finishes at both ends.
