FAQs

Victorian lighting is characterised by revivalist motifs, heavy metalwork, and classical architectural influences, often incorporating classical columns and ornate cast bases.

These lamps were typically constructed from heavy cast brass, bronze, or copper, often featuring weighted iron bases for stability and intricate metal castings.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit period manufacturing techniques such as threaded brass components, heavy sand-cast bases, patination appropriate for age, and older electrical conversions or original oil-lamp mechanisms.

Pairing a metallic antique lamp with contemporary seating or minimalist architecture creates a striking juxtaposition that highlights the craftsmanship without overwhelming the space.

Maintain antique brass by dusting regularly with a soft cloth and avoiding harsh chemical polishes that strip the natural historical patina and value.
