Fine Georgian Silver Sugar / Spice Caster

Description

A fine quality George III silver pedestal caster of reverse baluster form, set on a stepped square collet foot with reeded detail. Incurved shoulders above a further raised reeded band and fitted with a bell shape push in cover with pagoda knop. Bright cut engraved decorative bands throughout and a more ornate engraved floral garland frieze around the middle edging up to a large laurel wreath framed cartouche and small leaves in each corner of the foot. Small hand pierced holes to the cover, for use with sugar or spices.

Hallmarked for London, 1804, maker's initials CK or CH.

It measures 14cm (5 1/2") high and 5cm (2") wide and weighs 102g / 3.3ozt.

In excellent condition with no damage or dents, minor rubbing to the edge of the hallmarks but minimal to the engraved decoration and reeding. The cartouche is unengraved.
