George II walnut veneered bureau
An early 18th century George II walnut veneered bureau.
The bureau has five cross banded oak lined drawers, a long slim drawer over two short drawers over two deep drawers and a cross banded writing flap.
The drawers have engraved brass handles and steel locks and a beaded edge.
The interior has four pigeonholes and 6 short and one long oak lined drawers all with brass knob handles. The interior also has the well in the interior. This was to allow access to the top drawer, saving the need to close the fall to get an item from that drawer.
This would be one of the last bureaus still to have a well, as the idea phased out in the middle of the 18th.c
The bureau is a good colour and in good condition though the feet have had some restoration in the past.
