Antique English Sterling Silver Sewing Thread / String or Twine Dispensing Box - 1905

Description

An outstanding Victorian sterling silver box beautifully pierced or reticulated and made of a good gauge of silver weighing 2.09 Troy Ounces or 65.1grams.

The box sometimes described as sewing thread dispensers are more like to have been used as a fine string or twine box. The knob on the top used to open the lid has the hole in the top which any of these materials could be dispensed.

The box has a beautiful set of markings, the English silver hallmark for Birmingham 1905, making this a true Edwardian example. The makers initials are also present S & Co. for the silversmith, Sydney & Co.

Superb condition, with a base diameter measuring 2 1/4" and standing 3 1/8" tall to top of finial.
