Metal mesh bags gained immense popularity during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods, evolving from medieval armour techniques into delicate accessories for evening wear.

Authentic period pieces were typically constructed from sterling silver, silver-plated brass, or German silver, featuring finely linked metal rings and hand-stamped frames.

Authenticity is usually determined by examining the hallmark stamps on the frame, the soldering technique of the individual links, and the specific patina developed over decades of oxidisation.

These historical accessories are frequently displayed inside glass cabinets, shadow boxes, or on decorative trays as sculptural elements of tactile interest.

Preservation requires storing the item flat in acid-free tissue paper away from direct sunlight, avoiding harsh chemical dips, and using a soft brush to gently remove dust from the links.
