Victorian silver condiment ladles were produced in large quantities during the 19th century to accompany specialised table service for mustards, salts, and preserves as dining etiquette evolved.

These pieces were typically forged from sterling silver, often featuring gilt interiors known as vermeil within the bowl to protect the silver from corrosive condiments.

Authentic pieces bear British hallmarks including a standard mark, a leopards head or other assay office mark, a date letter, and a monarchs head profile.

These small items can be displayed inside glass cabinets, incorporated into vintage bar carts, or used practically within contemporary table settings.

Regular polishing with a non-abrasive silver cloth and storing in a tarnish-resistant environment helps maintain the metal finish without wearing down the hallmarks.
