This Sheraton period tambour desk dates from circa 1800 and adopts the classic writing desk form of the era. The piece consists of dark brown partridgewood and mahogany, finished with a smooth polished surface and fitted with small brass keyhole escutcheons on the drawers and brass castors at the base of each leg. Decorative elements include a curved slatted tambour roll top enclosing the upper section, slender tapered square legs, and intricate floral marquetry panels, inlaid swags, crossbanding, and starburst motifs across the timber surfaces. The frame measures 106 cm high, 79 cm wide, and 61 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this item serves as a compact writing station or display surface in a study, drawing room, or hallway. Additional visual details comprise two small horizontal drawers positioned on the lower sides of the rounded end panels, small circular rosette inlays placed above the central marquetry medallions, and slender line stringing bordering the upper rail and leg transitions. The overall construction displays refined proportions with clean vertical lines and gentle curves at the roll top. The brass castors provide mobility while maintaining the delicate aesthetic of the tapered supports. The rich grain of the partridgewood shows subtle colour variation across the panels, complementing the lighter floral inlay work on the ends and the front apron.

Sheraton period furniture, popular from the late 18th to early 19th century, is distinguished by delicate neoclassical proportions, slender tapered legs, and refined marquetry or satinwood crossbanding.

Georgian tambour desks were typically constructed from fine hardwoods such as mahogany, satinwood, and partridgewood, featuring flexible slatted wooden blinds over canvas backing and brass castors.

Authentic Sheraton desks exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, original brass fittings or castors, smooth-running slatted tambour mechanisms, and precise marquetry or line inlay appropriate to the circa 1800 period.

Place the desk in a quiet study, light-filled bedroom corner, or reception room, pairing its dark timber tones with neutral walls, minimalist brass lighting, and curated decorative accessories.

Maintain the timber by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, applying beeswax sparingly along the grain, and protecting the marquetry mechanism from direct heat sources or extreme humidity changes.
