Elegant Georgian Silver Cream Jug Hallmarked London 1799

Description

A very elegant Georgian silver cream jug hallmarked London 1799. This solid silver George III jug has a flat oval base and a helmet shaped body, the high sides of which allow for a wonderful array of decorative engraved flourishes and swags. A band of engraving circles the top and the sides have ornate repousse decorations. There is a cartouche to one side within which is engraved an armorial lion. The angular handle is elegantly reeded and the inside is lightly gilded.

A super example of 18th century silverware, lovely for a silver collector or as a special item for fine dining.

 

Hallmarks are visible (in the engraved band) for the London Assay Office with a date letter for 1799 and the Lion Passant indicating the finest sterling silver.

Period: George III

Condition: In super condition, with just a few dark spots to the gilding inside.

 

Measurements: Max height 11.4 cm Width 6.6 cm Depth handle to spout 13cm Weight: 140 grams
