Rare Solid Sterling Silver WWI Rationed Sugar Box 1918 Antique 42g

Description

A beautiful rare English antique solid sterling silver sugar box. It is hallmarked for Birmingham 1918 with the makers mark of Cornelius Desormeaux Saunders & James Francis Hollings (Frank) Shepherd. These are seldom seem because they were only briefly used during the war rationing years when sugar was often unavailable in restaurants. It has been beautifully made and is gilded inside. It is in superb condition being free from dings splits and repairs. It measures approx. 2.5 inches (6.4cm) across by over 1 inch (2.8cm) tall and weighs 42 grams. A very nicely made rare piece and snap shot of history.
