Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This antique Northwest Persian Zanjan Kelleh long rug dates to 1910, originating from the villages of the Zanjan area. Hand-knotted from a wool pile onto a cotton warp with cotton and wool weft threads, the carpet displays a salmon red ground with an abrash finish, decorated with a geometric medallion, arrow-pointed ends, and hooked latch-hook symbols. A wide cream, dark blue, and red Harshang crab border surrounds the field. The restored piece has an all-over low pile with tinting to the salmon ground, secured sides and ends, and short fringing at the ends. Measuring 347 cm high, 140 cm wide, and 1 cm deep, the large format suits principal reception rooms or long hallways in a traditional English country house setting.

FAQs

Originating from the Zanjan region in Northwest Persia, a Kelleh rug is characterised by its long, medium-width format, historically woven to sit at the head or side of a traditional Persian room arrangement.

These rugs are hand-knotted using hand-spun wool pile on a wool or cotton foundation, featuring natural dyes and durable symmetrical knots.

Identification relies on examining geometric motifs, such as the Harshang crab border pattern, specific long-runner proportions, a pliable handle, and subtle abrash colour variations in the pile.

Position the long rug in a wide hallway, gallery space, or beneath a dining table to add architectural definition, rich texture, and historical warmth to contemporary wooden or stone flooring.

Vacuum regularly using a suction-only setting without a rotating brush bar, rotate the piece periodically to balance wear, and seek professional specialist hand-cleaning when required.
