Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Pirot kilims originate from the Southeastern Serbian town of Pirot, a historic centre for flatweave carpet production influenced by Balkan and Ottoman weaving traditions. The term Sarkoy refers to a regional style classification associated with fine tapestry-woven kilims produced across the Balkans during the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Traditional kilims are crafted using a flatweave or slit-weave technique, primarily utilising natural wool for both the warp and weft. Unlike hand-knotted pile rugs, the coloured weft threads are tightly woven through the warp to create the design, resulting in a flat, pileless textile that is identical on both sides.

Authentic Pirot kilims are recognised by their smooth flatweave texture, lack of pile, and reversible construction. Key design indicators include crisp geometric motifs such as diamond medallions and stylized botanical symbols, typically framed by dense, multi-layered borders.

Flatweave kilims are frequently styled in modern interiors to introduce colour, pattern, and tactile warmth to minimalist or contemporary rooms. They can be placed centrally in living areas, positioned beneath dining tables due to their low profile, or layered over neutral sisal carpets for an eclectic aesthetic.

To preserve a wool kilim, vacuum regularly using a suction-only setting without a rotating beater bar to avoid damaging the flatweave structure. Spills should be blotted immediately with a dry cloth, and professional cleaning by a textile specialist is recommended for periodic maintenance.
