Exhibit Antiques has dated this piece to the 1860s.
A superb 19th-century Victorian silver and tigers eye brooch in the form of a horseshoe.
The brooch is unmarked which is quite normal for Scottish jewellery of this period. Mounted with a handmade scrolling c-clasp, a slightly extended pin and a tube hinge, there is also an intact hanging loop. The tigers eye stones have been expertly set and are exceedingly rare amongst Victorian brooches, you may not find another.
