Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Queen Anne bureau bookcase features a slant-front desk section beneath an upper cabinet, often constructed with arched door frames, decorative pediments, and bracket or cabriole feet characteristic of early 18th-century English design.

European lacquering, or japanning, used multiple layers of shellac and varnish mixed with mineral pigments over timber frames such as pine or oak, often decorated with raised gilding to simulate Asian lacquerware.

Authentic characteristics include hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawers, original brass batwing backplates and drop handles, mercurial mirror glass, and period-appropriate carcass timber.

A red lacquered piece acts as a focal architectural element, contrasting well with neutral wall palettes, quiet textiles, or contemporary artwork to highlight the detailed gilded work.

Keep the furniture away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent cracking. Dust gently with a clean microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh liquid polishes or solvent cleaners.
