This grand scale Victorian sofa originates from England around 1890 and bears the maker mark of Maple and Co. The frame supports sprung horsehair upholstery covered in Alma Paris hide leather in a rich chestnut brown shade. Generous proportions define the piece, complemented by wide rolled arms finished with piped detailing and brass studded trim. Low turned bun feet equipped with brass casters support the substantial base while the deep seat provides comfortable lounging. Practical dimensions measure 214 cm wide by 92 cm deep and 87 cm high. Natural surface variations in the leather hide indicate character and gentle aging from previous use. Such a distinguished seating option suits a traditional gentleman library, a spacious study or a formal living room layout where classic nineteenth century English furniture remains appreciated.

A club sofa is a deep-seated upholstered couch featuring heavy rolled arms and a low back profile, originally popularised in nineteenth-century gentlemens clubs across Britain.

Authentic period pieces typically feature solid hardwood frames, hand-tied steel coil springs, natural hair stuffing, and full-grain aniline hide secured with brass studs or piped trim.

Authentic Maple & Co pieces frequently feature a stamped brass makers plate, printed fabric lining underneath the seat base, or a die-stamp along the wooden legs.

Pair rich chestnut leather seating with neutral linen textiles, simple architectural lighting, and minimalist oak side tables to balance classic weight with contemporary clarity.

Position the upholstery away from direct heat sources and radiators to prevent drying, and apply a specialized wax or lanolin conditioner regularly with a soft cloth.
