A beautiful and finely Woven antique Serab runner, Northern Persia, late 19th century. Soft natural dyes on camel ground, this very elegant runner is offered in super clean condition, even low pile, one or two very small old repairs, long, straight and narrow. Hand washed ands moth proofed with all ends and sides secured. Circa 1890.

Serab runners are traditional hand-knotted Persian textiles produced in the Serab region of Northwest Iran. They are characterised by their elongated, narrow proportions, geometric diamond-shaped medallions, and prominent fields of undyed camel hair wool.

Authentic Serab rugs are constructed using a wool pile knotted onto a cotton or wool foundation. The central field frequently utilises natural, undyed camel hair, while the decorative motifs are coloured using vegetable and mineral dyes.

Authentic Serab runners can be identified by their distinctive camel-coloured field, geometric latch-hook medallions, and narrow, long dimensions. The weave demonstrates symmetrical Turkish (Ghiordes) knots, often showing natural colour variations known as abrash across the wool pile.
