Beautiful rich luminous coloured wool used especially the lighter blues for this afshar saddle bag face,circa 1900.

Virtually full piled. Brocaded top end.

All ends and sides secured.

2 foot by 2 foot 4 inches. 61cm X 71cm. Wool pile hand knotted onto cotton warp and wool & cotton wefts dyed light pink.

Hand washed,de-dusted and ready for display or use.

An Afshar saddlebag face, or khorjin panel, is a hand-knotted wool textile originally crafted by semi-nomadic Afshar tribes in southern Persia to create double bags for transport and storage during seasonal migrations.

These textiles are constructed using hand-spun sheep wool for both the pile and structural foundation, dyed with naturally derived vegetable and mineral pigments.

Authentic Afshar weavings feature dense hand-knotted wool pile, depressed warps, highly saturated navy blue and terracotta red tones, and geometric or stylized floral motifs.
