A rustic antique Mahal carpet woven around 1890-1900, over 120 years old, beautifully hand-woven with terracotta, orange rust tones, ivory medallions and subtle green and blue dyes. A deep indigo blue border frames this colour palette so well, some scattered areas of wear, but structurally secure and in original condition. A classic country house looking carpet, with an unusual all over large scale design.
A beautiful carpet for a drawing room, bedroom, study or entrance hall for example, as antique carpets can be used anywhere in a home. We supply anti-slip underlay with all of our carpets and rugs, to aid their strength on the floor and it also helps preserve the carpet too. As wear is generally caused by a carpet moving around on a floor with poor or no underlay.

Mahal carpets were produced in Sultanabad, Persia which is now Arak in the center of Iran. Mahal and Sultanabad rugs were made in the same area as the earliest Fereghans and Sarouks, but they are very different in form and structure. Floral motifs and overall designs of vine scrolls and palmettes remain consistent with the influences of western colour palettes and are all characteristics of Ziegler carpets.
