Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This late 19th-century Persian Sultanabad carpet exhibits a hand-knotted wool and cotton construction in an antique style. The piece displays a terracotta red field decorated with large botanical palmettes, intricate floral vinescrolls, and composite borders in shades of blue, white, yellow, and green. Visible signs of age and extensive past conservation include surface wear and numerous old repairs across the field, alongside secured ends and sides. Measuring 390 cm high, 317 cm wide, and 0.5 cm deep, this large rectangular rug suits placement as a central floor covering in a spacious living room, dining room, or library interior. The traditional floral motifs and earthy colour palette complement classic English country house interior schemes.

FAQs

Originating from the Arak region of Persia in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Sultanabad carpets are distinguished by their large-scale floral patterns, supple weave, and wide borders designed specifically for European and American markets.

These carpets are hand-knotted using hand-spun wool pile woven onto a durable cotton warp and weft foundation, coloured with dyes derived from natural plant and mineral sources.

Authenticity is indicated by asymmetrical hand-tied knots, flexible handle, muted colour tones resulting from natural vegetable dyes, and spacious palmette or vine scroll compositions rather than dense geometric grids.

A Sultanabad carpet serves as an anchoring base in living rooms or dining areas, harmonising equally well with classic dark wood antiques and contemporary neutral upholstered furniture.

Clean regularly using a suction-only vacuum cleaner without a rotating brush bar, rotate the rug periodically to distribute wear evenly, and use professional hand-washing services for deep cleaning.
