Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century Persian tribal rug is a hand-woven Khamseh wool carpet measuring 200 cm high by 118 cm wide and 0.5 cm deep. The piece displays a mid indigo blue field dominated by three central diamond medallions alongside latch-hook details, stylised animal motifs, and a geometric step border. A warm red background contrasts against the central blue field, while ivory and green elements accent the patterns. The borders exhibit a calyx and leaf design flanked by skittle guard stripes, complemented by fringed ends at the top and bottom. The textile works well as a floor covering in traditional living spaces, studies, or bedrooms to add texture and historic character.

FAQs

Khamseh carpets are traditional tribal rugs produced by the Khamseh confederacy, a alliance of nomadic tribes in South West Persia. They are recognised by their geometric patterns, multiple diamond-shaped medallions, and small stylised motifs representing local flora and fauna.

These carpets are traditionally hand-knotted using hand-spun wool for both the pile and the underlying foundation warp and weft. The yarn is dyed using natural plant and mineral sources, creating rich tones derived from madder root, indigo, and walnut husks.

Authentic pieces exhibit a flexible, soft wool structure, subtle colour variations known as abrash, and distinct tribal elements such as stylised bird motifs filling the field around central medallions. Minor irregularities in symmetry and weave density further indicate genuine nomadic craft.

A tribal carpet serves as a grounding focal point in both traditional and contemporary interiors, harmonising with natural wood furniture, leather seating, or clean minimalist decor. The rich geometric patterns provide contrast and depth when placed on timber or stone floors.

Regular cleaning with a suction-only vacuum cleaner protects the wool fibers from premature wear. Spills should be blotted immediately with cold water and a neutral soap, while periodic professional cleaning by an antique textile specialist maintains the condition of the weave.
