Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

The Edwardian period, spanning from 1901 to 1910, was characterised by a lighter, more graceful aesthetic compared to the heavy ornamentation of the late Victorian era, often drawing inspiration from 18th-century French and neoclassical styles.

These items typically feature a front plate fashioned from sterling silver, often heavily embossed or pierced, mounted over a wooden backing usually lined with velvet, watered silk, or leather, supported by a hinged wooden strut.

Authenticity is confirmed by locating official British hallmarks stamped on the silver, which include the makers mark, the lion passant for sterling silver, the town assay office mark, and a date letter corresponding to the specific year of manufacture.

Placing such an item on a mantelpiece, sideboard, or desk introduces a touch of metallic sheen and historical texture that contrasts effectively with minimalist modern surfaces and neutral colour palettes.

Silver components should be maintained using a specialised non-abrasive silver cloth to remove tarnish while preserving the underlying metal, taking care to avoid any fabric backing or wooden elements during the process.
