Chester 1911 Heavy and Lovely Quality Solid Silver Twin Handled Sugar Bowl Made by Nathan and Hayes.

1900 - 1920
Description

Chester 1911 heavy English hallmarked solid silver Arts and Crafts style twin handled sugar bowl made by George Nathan and Ridley Hayes of Birmingham and Hatton Garden London.

Heavy gauged silver has been used to make this very good quality bowl. It is formed with bulbous sides and a central ribbed piece, and stands on a plain footed base. It has a pale gilt interior lining, and beautifully shaped handles, capped with a feather design to the thumb pieces.

Nathan and Hayes are well regarded makers of the period, and are known for their Arts and Crafts interpretations of early English silver pieces.

Weight-155 grams.

Size-5 1/8 inches wide (handle to handle outside) by 3.75 inches diameter by 2.5 inches high.

Originally for sugar, and still perfect for that purpose, this bowl can also be used for sweets, nuts, mints, sauce or whatever you wish.

A lovely piece in very good condition, by very good makers.

Chester silver is also very collectable on its own as the assay office closed in 1962.

Declaration

Serpentine Antiques has dated this piece to the 1910s.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
